Martin Murphy is a seasoned healthcare veteran with over 25 years of leadership experience in life sciences investment. Previously, Martin Murphy was co-founder of Syncona Limited, a FTSE 250 healthcare investment company, and CEO and Investment Committee Chair of Syncona Investment Management Limited. He now holds various Chair positions and is a Director and founding investor of NASDAQ-listed Autolus Therapeutics plc. Between 2005-2012, he served as a Managing Director of MVM Life Science Partners LLP. Martin holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford.

Martin Murphy

Dr. Mark Parry-Billings joined Synairgen in October 2024 as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mark is an accomplished international biotech and pharmaceutical executive with a successful track record of more than 30 years in leadership and senior R&amp;D roles. Most recently, he served as Global Head of Drug Development at Chiesi. Prior to this, he served as CEO of Topigen Pharmaceuticals until its acquisition by Pharmaxis in 2010. Mark has deep expertise in respiratory therapeutics and drug delivery to the lungs, having led multiple novel assets from early stage through clinical development to market approval, with a primary focus on inhaled drug delivery.

Mark Parry-Billings

An experienced Chief Financial Officer, Joseph is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with extensive listed company, finance, commercial and consulting experience. Most recently, he has held positions as executive and non-executive directors of listed early-stage life sciences companies, where Joseph led financial reporting, M&amp;A, strategy, and regulatory / corporate governance. Prior to this, Joseph spent ten years in senior leadership roles in the Kantar division of WPP PLC, including CFO at Kantar Futures, and Global Commercial Director of TNS, a multi-billion-dollar global market research agency. Joseph qualified as a chartered Accountant in the audit practice of Mazars LLP.

Joseph Colliver

Dr Marcin Mankowski was appointed Chief Medical Officer at Synairgen in October 2023. He is an experienced pharmaceutical physician and drug developer with 27 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Marcin has been a consultant to Synairgen since 2018 in a part-time capacity, latterly as acting CMO. Marcin graduated from the Medical University in Warsaw, where he worked for several years in pneumonology and infectious diseases departments. During his career, he held several positions at at big pharma and biotech companies and was also a co-founder of tranScrip, a leading drug development consulting firm. He has been involved in the development of many anti-infective and respiratory products and has broad experience in the design and management of clinical studies, interactions with regulatory authorities as well as bringing drugs to the market.

Dr Marcin Mankowski

Amanda Radford FCA is an independent non-executive director and Chair of the Audit Committee since December 2022. 
Amanda is an internationally experienced finance leader with substantial listed company expertise and is currently the Group Financial Controller of BSI Group, the global B2B company which employs around 5,500 people and generates revenues of c. £600M. Over the course of her career, Amanda has held senior finance roles in a number of public companies and has significant experience in external reporting, financial controls, forecasting and business planning as well as M&amp;A and fundraising. She has previously held senior positions at companies including Convatec Group plc, Post Office Ltd, Pets at Home Vet Group and TalkTalk Telecom Group. 
Starting her career as a qualified chartered accountant, Amanda trained at Deloitte prior to which she received a BSc in Biochemistry with Molecular &amp; Cell Biology from Birmingham University.

Amanda Radford FCA

Dr Flic Gabbay is an independent non-executive director and Chair of the Remuneration Committee of Synairgen, joining the Board in September 2022. Flic has extensive experience within the life sciences sector including holding several senior and CEO positions in big pharma, biotech and CROs in both Europe and North America. As Founder and Managing Partner at TranScrip LLP, founded in 2008, she has overseen drug development work with companies at all stages of the drug development cycle, as well as securing private equity investment and the acquisition of Real Regulatory.
Starting her career as a medical doctor, Flic held various medical posts across Europe before moving into the biotechnology sector. She is the current President of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine for the Royal Colleges of Physicians.
In 2020, Flic was awarded the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Science and is passionate about bringing pharmaceutical medicine into mainstream medical science and its application to public health.
She completed a BSc in Pharmacology and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree at the University of Manchester.

Dr Flic Gabbay

Richard Marsden joined Synairgen in a consulting role as General Manager in November 2003, was appointed to the Board as Managing Director in June 2004 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in September 2009. Between 1998 and 2003 he worked as Projects Manager and Cystic Fibrosis Business Development Manager at Profile Therapeutics plc, where he managed the Cystic Fibrosis business and played a major role in the development of its proprietary pharmaceutical unit, Profile Pharma Limited. Prior to this, he worked for Zimmer Limited, Genentech (UK) Limited and Roche Products Limited.

Richard Marsden

Stephen Holgate is a co-founder of Synairgen and was appointed a non-executive director in June 2003. After qualifying in Medicine at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, London he has pursued an academic career leading to his appointment in 1987 to his current position as Medical Research Council Clinical Professor of Immunopharmacology at the University of Southampton. His research interests have been largely focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of asthma that has involved use of both epidemiological and genetic approaches. He has published over 1,300 papers in peer-reviewed literature.
He is Member of the Horizon 2020 Science Panel for Health; Board Chair of the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs); Chairman of Defra’s Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee; Trustee and Chair of the Research Strategy Committee of Cancer Research UK; Trustee and Chair of the Grants Panel of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity; Trustee and Chair of The Kennedy Trust for Rheumatology Research; Member of the Governing Body of Nuffield Council for Bioethics; and Member of the Natural Environment research Council. He serves on a number of Advisory Committees in industry, including scientific board member or advisor to a number of companies involved in developing new treatments for airways diseases.

Professor Sir Stephen Holgate

Dr Bruce Campbell joined Synairgen as a non-executive director in April 2006. He has 50 years of drug development experience and has developed many drugs in a wide range of indications which are now on the market. He currently acts as a consultant to various companies including BenevolentAI and Syncona. Formerly he was Senior VP of International Development at Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (‘Neurocrine’). Prior to joining Neurocrine he worked for 27 years at Servier (United Kingdom), latterly as Scientific Director. In addition, he has also been a director and European Chairman of the Drug Information Association, a member of the European ICH Safety Working Party and a scientific advisor to IP Group plc.

Dr Bruce Campbell

Iain Buchanan was appointed as a non-executive director in June 2010 and brings to the company over 40 years of management experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Most recently he was CEO of NOXXON Pharma AG based in Berlin and previously he was CEO of Novexel S.A. based in Paris. 
He joined Novexel from Vertex Pharmaceuticals where he established the European affiliate. Prior to Vertex, Iain managed the international licensee business of Cilag AG – a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson – based in Switzerland. Iain serves as a non-executive director for Allecra Therapeutics GmbH and Celloryx AG.

Iain Buchanan

Gareth Walters joined Synairgen in October 2021, and brings a wide range of experience from preclinical, to marketing authorisation, through to post-approval and commercialisation. Before joining Synairgen, Gareth served as Global Regulatory Affairs Head (Research &amp; Early Development) and Head of European Regulatory Affairs for Chugai Pharmaceuticals, where he led strategic and operational regulatory activities in Europe, Japan and the US. Prior to his time at Chugai, he held various senior regulatory and executive management and Board roles at several pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as commercial and clinical positions at Roche. During this time he played a key role in bringing innovative new medicines to the market, including in the US and Europe.

Dr Gareth Walters

Richard Francis joined in September 2021 as Head of CMC, bringing more than 35 years of experience in the development, manufacturing, regulatory approval and commercialization of many biopharmaceutical products including Cablivi®, Orthoclone OKT3®, Remicade®, and ReoPro®.

Jody Brookes joined Synairgen as a Clinical Research Nurse in 2004 and was appointed as Head of Clinical Operations in December 2011. Jody has led Synairgen’s clinical trial activity during this time. Prior to joining Synairgen, she worked as a Clinical Research Nurse specialising in Respiratory trials at the University of Southampton, working on both commercial and non-commercial trials.
